What is the Helping Calendar, and how can I use it?

The Helping Calendar can be one of the most useful features of your Friends & Family Site. Our members use the calendar to request help with events like:

  • Meals
  • Rides to appointments
  • Caregiver Relief
  • Visits
  • Childcare and pet care
  • Lawn and house maintenance

When you're logged into your site, please click the "Helping Calendar" tab in the top gray navigation bar.

You'll notice there are different calendar views on the right side (month, week, day, or list).

To create a new event, you can either click the red "Create Event" button at the top left corner of the page or double click on any chosen date on the calendar itself.

For this example, let's request dinner for the family on Friday, February 7th.
You'll enter your event name (required), then choose the type of event ("Meal").
Finally, select the time of the event (6:00pm).

Please note, if this is a Recurring event, ex: if you'd like dinner EVERY Friday or you need a ride to chemo EVERY Tuesday, you can click on the blue Recurring Event slider button.

Next, you're asked, "Who can view this event?"
Choose "All guests" for most events so your guests can sign up to help. If you choose "Owner and Care Coordinator only" then only you will see it, which some people use to track doctor appointments or private events.

Add a Description and Location (not required, but helpful).

It's very IMPORTANT to choose "1" volunteer needed for this event. This will allow guests to easily sign up to help you. Most events like meal requests need 1 volunteer, but for events like yard clean-up, you might ask for more helping hands. Hint: even if you have a recurring event (meals for the next 5 Fridays, you still want to put "1" volunteer needed here, since only 1 helper is needed for each week).

Lastly, remember to click the red 'Create Event' button to finish. You're all set.

On your calendar, you'll see the event name and time, and a big red button "Help Needed." This will indicate to your guests that they can sign up. Once 1 person (in this example) signs up, the button will turn gray and say "No Help Needed" to indicate it's covered.
